CAMPAIGN UPDATE: Just like you, we at Ciara Elend Studio have heard the great news about the oil spill in the gulf. BP has closed up the leak and has completely cleaned up the oil from the surface of the ocean. They have also started the fund to pay the fisherman and their families who were affected by this disaster.
Yes, this is true, but they’re not mentioning all the facts.
-The leak was open about 15 weeks before BP could close it, so 5 million barrels of crude oil was dumped into the Gulf of Mexico from April 20 to July 15, 2010.
- BP has cleaned the oil from the surface of the ocean, but only from the surface, (less than 1.4 million barrels of oil has been removed from the ocean), much of the crude oil has sunk to the bottom to the ocean in giant plumes (which are oil balls floating in water) that will flow with ocean currents waiting to break open in other unpolluted ocean waters.
- As for the BP fund payments to the victims, the NY Times reports victims may get the same treatment as the 9/11 victims. Sadly, most of 9/11 victims haven’t gotten any compensation because it’s so hard to file a claim through all the red-tape beaurcracy.

They work directly with the Louisiana Seafood Board, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation to identify those in most need of assistance and ensure all dollars go directly to those who have been hit hardest by the oil spill.
- National Audubon Society works to aid birds already suffering the oil’s deadly effects; will protect now-unharmed wildlife in the path of the spill and help meet the long-term challenge of restoring a devastated Gulf of Mexico ecosystem.
